The 2026 Buganda Kingdom Masaza Cup officially kicked off on Saturday, 13th June with holders Buweekula taking on Kyaddondo at NTC playground in Buweekula.

Buweekula had the opportunity of hosting the first game following their triumph over Ssingo during last year’s edition of the prestigious competition.

In a game of few scoring chances, both Buweekula and Kyaddondo settled for a goalless stalemate at NTC playground.

Buweekula head coach Ibrahim Kyobe asserts that the FUFA Big League Promotion Playoffs halted their preparations but believes his side will build on the stalemate against Kyaddondo

“We had some players who missed the game due to the FUFA Big League Promotion Playoffs but we have picked positives from our first match and hope for the best in the next games. We take the draw against a decent side that has good players but I am optimistic we shall win our next games and prevail past the group stages.” Said Kyobe

The opening game was graced by the Katikkiro of Buganda Kingdom Owek.Charles Peter Mayiga, sponsors from Airtel Uganda, Plascon Uganda and Centenary Bank.

Trevor Kalule the Kyaddondo team captain was named man of the match.

Buweekula and Kyaddondo are in Bulange Group that has Buddu, Buvuma,Busujju and Buluuli with the top two advancing to the quarterfinals of the event while the best placed third placed teams also qualify for to the last eight.
