Veteran Rally driver and two-time national champion Ponsiano Lwakataka has emerged as the potential buyer for Late Rajiv Ruparelia’s Volkswagen Proto.
Lwakataka who will hold a fundraising dinner on Saturday, 18th July at Imperial Royal Hotel in Kampala asserts that he has already paid $20000 and still needs $40000 to fully put his hands in the car.
“I call upon all my friends to come for the dinner as i fundraise for the car that i believe will help me compete. I thank all my fellow drivers who have already supported me, i need like $40000 to get the car from Late Rajiv’s family then i will also need more to buy spare parts.”
“Acquiring the car would preserve a close friend’s legacy, so that’s why i am going for it. Cars of this magnitude are far better than my 20-year old N12B. They are lighter, faster and more advanced so i need to upgrade.” Said Lwakataka

The fundraising dinner will go for Shs200000 per person, Shs1M for a table of four, Shs2M for six and Shs3M for eight people.
In the bid to raise funds, Lwakataka has also put his 20-year N12B rally car on market for Shs90M as well as two of his individual titles he previously won.

Last year, Lwakataka won four of the seven national rally events before his title charge was halted by retirements. So far eight Proto are in the country and now Lwakataka aims at securing the iconic car for competition and legacy.
