SC Villa close to sealing deal for “Dancing rasta”

Record Uganda Premier League champions SC Villa are closing in on experienced attacking midfielder Allan Kateregga, Swift Sports Uganda understands.
Sources indicate that the Jogoos have opened talks with the Kateregga who is a free agent and negotiations are at an advanced stage. Villa are monitoring Kateregga who left Rwanda’s Police FC at the end of last season.
Kateregga, popularly known as the “Dancing Rasta,” is currently a free agent after being released by Rwanda Police FC at the end of the 2025/26 season alongside four other players as part of a squad overhaul. He won the 2024 Rwanda Super Cup with the Kigali side.
The left-footed playmaker brings vast experience. He has previously featured for SC Victoria University, BUL FC and KCCA FC in Uganda, Tusker FC and AFC Leopards in Kenya, Cape Town City and Maritzburg United in South Africa, Erbil SC in Iraq, and FC Saint-Éloi Lupopo in DR Congo.
At international level, Kateregga was part of the Uganda Cranes squad at AFCON 2019 in Egypt and earned 8 caps for Uganda.
SC Villa are looking to add creativity and experience to their midfield ahead of the 2026/27 StarTimes Uganda Premier League season which kicks off on August 28. The Jogoos, who finished third last season, will host Kitara FC at Wankulukuku on Matchday One.
Several clubs including KCCA had also shown interest, but Villa are now leading the race.
If completed, Kateregga would be one of Villa’s biggest signings of the window having signed Steven Mugisha, versatile player John Asiimwe and striker Isaac Gumperom.
