FUFA is in talks with Ethiopian coach Asefa Firew Hailegebreal to take over as Crested Cranes head coach, Swift Sports Uganda can reliably confirm.
This website has established that the former KCCA Women FC head coach Hailegebreal is the leading candidate to take over from South African Sheryl Botes who mutually departed her role on Saturday.
Hailegebreal was appointed as KCCA Women FC (formerly Kampala Queens) coach at the start of the 2024/25 season on a two-year deal.
During his time at the club, the tactician led the side to their second FUFA Women Super League title and also won the FUFA Women’s Cup last season.
Hailegebreal also served as head coach of the Ethiopian Women’s national team guiding the Ethiopian U20 Team to CECAFA success in 2021 at FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru.
If appointed, Hailegebreal is expected to take immediate charge of the Crested Cranes ahead of the crucial Olympic Women’s Football Tournament Los Angeles 2028 second round qualifier against Zambia next month.
