The first leg of the Masaza Cup quarterfinals lived up to the billing on Sunday, with Kyaggwe and record holders Gomba making a massive statement.

In the headline clash, Gomba humbled Buddu 3-0 in a dominant display at Kabulasoke playground, putting one foot firmly in the semifinals. The Lions were ruthless at home, leaving three time champions Buddu with a mountain to climb in the return leg.
Muhammad Kasule and Alfred Ssebunya gave Felix Ssekabuuza’s men an halftime lead before Hassan Waiswa sealed it in the second period.
Busujju edged Butambala 1-0 in a tight encounter, securing a slender advantage ahead of the second leg.
Abura Micheal struck the all important goal for Busujju to smile to a first leg advantage.
Kyaggwe picked up a vital away victory, beating Mawogola 2-1 on the road to take control of their tie.
Kyaggwe managed to overcome Mawogola away from thanks to goals from Lubwama Lauben and David Mugalu.
Ssenono Asuman found a consolation for the home side but it was not enough to inspire a comeback.
Meanwhile, Bugerere and Kyaddondo could not be separated, playing out a goalless 0-0 draw in Buvuma.
The first round is done. The battle continues in the return legs next weekend, where semifinal slots will be decided.
