UBF Interim chairman Rukundo impressed by boxers at National Trials

Denis Musanje

The Uganda Boxing Federation (UBF) Interim Committee chairman, Olympian Sam Rukundo, is impressed with the performances of boxers at the National Trials being held at Gozalo Sports Arena in Makerere.

Rukundo revealed that they had a total of 96 registered boxers for the three-day trials.

“We are impressed with the performances of our boxers on the first day of the trials. We had over 96 registered boxers from 25 clubs, we have finished the quarterfinals and we will be heading to the semifinals then finals. The interim committee has ex-internationals, judges and referees who are doing a tremendous role to see that we get the best performers by Monday,” said Rukundo.

There were fears that the trials were not to be held, but this website established that the interim committee, with the help of Friends of Boxing, had clearance from Police to go ahead with their activities.

After the trials, the selected team will have a residential training camp before heading to Kinshasa to represent the country at the IBA Africa Elite Men’s and Women’s Boxing Championship, slated for October 19th to November 1st, 2026, in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Zambia, Cape Verde, Kenya, South Africa and Morocco are among the countries that have confirmed participation in the prestigious tournament.
