Uganda’s Bombers will make a glorious return home from Nairobi with 13 medals after their great show at the 2026 African Boxing Elite Men’s and Women’s Championships.
The event ended on Thursday evening with Uganda finishing in third place overall.
The Bombers won four gold medals, one silver and eight bronze medals at the event held at the Moi International Sports Centre (MISC) Indoor Arena in Nairobi, Kenya.
The men contributed three gold medals, one silver and three bronze medals, while the women bagged one gold and five bronze medals.
Kassim Mulungi, Samuel Nsubuga, Alfred Ojok and Vanessa Nagawa were the gold medalists at the championship.
It was, however, yet another disappointing final for Aziz Ringo, who settled for silver. He had been on course for gold but was disqualified for an illegal blow on Egypt’s Mohamed Hossen in the men’s 90kg final. It should be noted that he was also disqualified at the 2026 Commonwealth games after he made three illegal infrigements on Englishman Damar Thomas in the heavweight bout in July this year.

Alfred Ojok won his gold medal after the referee stopped the contest due to a cut to Egypt’s Omar Elawady in the middleweight 71kg final. The cut was reviewed to have come from Ojok’s punch.
Nagawa also became the first female Ugandan boxer to bag gold at the continental level following her victory in the 57kg final against Lesotho’s Rapelang Maselela by referee-stopped contest (RSC).
Mulungi clinched his gold after powering past Angola’s Daniel Makaya in the final, while Nsubuga beat Rwanda’s Valentin Ntabanganyimana 5-0 in the men’s 55kg final.
Before the finals, the Bombers had already secured eight bronze medals through Arafat Kibirige, Emmanuel Tabula, Richard Kasujja, Brenda Muduwa, Erina Namutebi, Rashida Nakawooza, Diana Atwine and Peninah Amoding.
