Vivo Energy injects Shs100M into Shell V-Power Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally

David GOMBE

Vivo Energy Uganda, the marketer and distributor of Shell-branded fuels and lubricants in Uganda, has announced the continuation of its partnership as title sponsor of the Shell V-Power Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally, scheduled to take place from 9th to 11th May 2025 in Mbarara City.

In a show of continued dedication to local motorsport development, Vivo Energy Uganda is extending a sponsorship package worth UGX 100 million to the Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda (FMU). The support reflects the company’s mission to invest in local talent, champion road safety, and power the growth of motorsport across the country.

As the title sponsor, Vivo Energy Uganda is once again placing Shell V-Power, its premium performance fuel, at the heart of the rally. Designed with a 98-octane rating, Shell V-Power is engineered to deliver superior engine performance, reduce friction, and clean critical engine components.

The fuel is co-engineered with and trusted by Scuderia Ferrari, making it the choice of champions in Formula 1. For everyday motorists, this means a fuel that not only boosts performance but also enhances engine longevity—bringing world-class technology to the Ugandan roads.
Speaking at the sponsorship launch, Joanita Menya Mukasa, Managing Director at Vivo Energy Uganda, said:

“We are proud to be the title sponsor of the Shell V-Power Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally once again. Our long-standing partnership with the Federation of Motorsport Uganda reflects our unwavering commitment to the motorsport community in Uganda. Through this sponsorship, we aim to support the dreams and aspirations of rally drivers and enthusiasts across the country. Motorsport is not just entertainment—it’s a platform for engineering innovation, youth empowerment, and national pride. By investing in events like this, we are helping to build a stronger sporting ecosystem and inspiring the next generation of drivers, engineers, and fans.”

Also speaking at the event, Hon. Jimmy Akena, President of the Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda, applauded the enduring partnership: “We are thrilled to continue our partnership with Vivo Energy Uganda for the Shell V-Power Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally. Their steadfast support has been instrumental in the growth and success of motorsport in Uganda. Year after year, they’ve helped elevate the rally to new heights, bringing professionalism, visibility, and crucial funding that fuels both the event and the sport at large.”

At the press conference held at Vivo Energy Uganda, the company also confirmed the continued sponsorship of celebrated rally driver Ronald Sebuguzi for the 14th consecutive year, reinforcing its role in backing elite talent on the local circuit.

The Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally remains a highlight on the national motorsport calendar and a qualifying event on the African Rally Championship (ARC) series. With Shell V-Power’s increased presence and support, this year’s edition promises even greater thrills, tougher competition, and a vibrant rally experience in Mbarara.

The FMU has urged motorsport fans from Uganda and beyond to attend and enjoy the rally responsibly. All attendees are encouraged to follow safety guidelines and rally regulations to ensure an unforgettable, yet secure, motorsport weekend.
