The Uganda Boxing team, Bombers have learnt their opponents for the 2026 Glasgow Commonwealth games in Scotland.
Under the stewardship of Twaib Mayanja, the bombers’ journey for medals will begin on Friday, 24th July as captain Nuhu Batte takes on Nigeria’s Abdul Wahab in the round of 32.
On Saturday 25th July, Alfred Ojok will lock horns with Anitelea Launiu of Niue in the heavyweight (80Kg) contest while Ibrahim Khemis will battle Zambia’s Albert Ngulube in the men’s lightweight 60kg category on the same day.
Emily Nakalema in women’s 65kg welterweight category aim to seal a semifinal slot against Australia’s Eve Bryson with their quarterfinal bout scheduled for Tuesday 28th July.
Angel Katushabe in women’s flyweight 51kg category will await the winner between England’s Ruby White and South Africa’s Thandolwethu TrueloThomathiba at the quarterfinal stage slated for Wednesday 29th July.
Still on Wednesday, 29th July, Aziz Ringo will tussle with England’s Thomas Damar in the men’s heavyweight 92kg category.
Boxing events will be held at the SEC Centre in Glasgow, with all semifinalists assured of medals.
At the 2022 edition that was held in Birmingham, Uganda collected five medals with four coming from Athletics.
Victor Kiplangat became the first ever Ugandan to a win a commonwealth marathon, while Jacob Kiplimo surged to a double gold over the (10,000m and 5000m). Peruth Chemuta managed bronze in the 3000m steeplechase.
The other medal was collected by Uganda’s first ever female Commonwealth games boxer Teddy Nakimuli, who claimed bronze at the previous games.
Uganda will compete in 10 disciplines at the 2026 Commonwealth Games due next month in Glasgow. The delegation will include athletes in athletics, netball, boxing, 3×3 basketball, swimming, weightlifting, para powerlifting, para swimming, judo and track cycling.
Athletics will have the biggest representation with 16 athletes, followed by netball with 12 and boxing with six. Uganda will also field four athletes in 3×3 basketball, four swimmers, three weightlifters, three para powerlifters, two para swimmers, two judokas and one track cyclist.
