Kawempe Muslim Ladies have made history by becoming the first Ugandan women’s team to qualify for the CAF Women’s Champions League final tournament.
The Valley Warriors overcame Kenya Police Bullets 1-0 in the CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers final in Nairobi to clinch the regional title and seal a slot in Africa’s biggest women’s club competition.
Agnes Nabukenya netted the all-important goal in extra time of a tense final to secure a historic victory for the record Ugandan champions.
A Perfect Campaign
Following the triumph, Kawempe Muslim becomes the first Ugandan side to win the Zonal Championship and the first Ugandan women’s club to secure qualification for the continental finals.
To emerge victorious, the Valley Warriors were flawless. They won all four games they played, scoring 13 goals without conceding a single goal a testament to their dominance.
Awards Galore
It was double joy for Kawempe as they swept the individual awards.
•Goalkeeper of the Tournament: Saida Namwanje (Kawempe Muslim)
•Most Valuable Player: Agnes Nabukenya (Kawempe Muslim)
•Top Scorer: Emush Dandamo (6 goals) – CBE FC, Ethiopia
•Fair Play Award: Yei Joint Stars – South Sudan
Meanwhile, Ethiopia’s CBE FC finished as the third-placed team after defeating Yei Joint Stars 5-1 in the third-place playoff.
Kawempe will now represent the CECAFA Zone at the CAF Women’s Champions League finals later this year, where they will face the continent’s elite.
