BUL FC moved to the top of the Uganda Premier League table with a 2-1 win over record champions SC Villa on Tuesday at the FUFA Technical Center, Njeru.
Both sides came into the contest with unbeaten starts and Villa were top with just a point separating them from BUL FC.
Alex Isabirye’s men made a statement with first-half goals from Alex Kitata and Derrick Byabacwezi handing them all three points over the Jogoos.
Tonny Asiku pulled one back for Villa in the second period but it was not enough to stage a comeback as they suffered their first defeat of the campaign.
Kitata opened the scoring in the 25th minute when he finished off a cross from Swabiru Mpasa before Byabacwezi doubled the advantage eleven minutes later when he finished off a long ball from former Villa goalkeeper Braddy Wokorach to give the hosts a comfortable lead.
In the 69th minute, Asiku pulled one back for the visitors but BUL held on to prevail and return to winning ways after last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Entebbe UPPC at the same venue.
BUL FC move to the summit and are now on 23 points, level with NEC FC who overcame UPDF FC thanks to a Fahad Bayo sole strike in the other game on Tuesday.
SC Villa drop to third position following the defeat and stay on 21 points.
After the international break, BUL will next face Vipers SC on November 18th while SC Villa will host UPDF FC two days later, on November 20th.
Elsewhere, Fahad Bayo scored the only goal as NEC FC defeated UPDF FC 1-0 to collect maximum points.
Kitara FC, meanwhile, played out a 1-1 draw with Police FC on the road. Gaddafi Wahab scored an early goal for the hosts before Samuel Ssekamate equalised for Police to ensure the visitors returned home with a point.
