African Games: Bunyaga shines in Hippos’ incredible comeback win over Congo

Uganda Hippos will take on Ghana in the final of the African Games in Accra, Ghana on Friday.

Under the stewardship of Morley Byekwaso, the Hippos came from 2-0 goals down to beat Congo 4-2 in the semifinal.

Servyl Akouala and Mignon Koto had given Congo a comfortable 2-0 lead in the first period of the contest and it was easy to feel that Hippos’ chance had gone by that time.

At the hour mark, SC Villa ‘s Abas Kyeyune cut the deficit for the Hippos to reinvigorate their belief.

Bruno Bunyaga who features for URA FC netted twice in the 70th and 73rd minute respectively to send Byekwaso and his bench into elation.

Hakim Mutebi put the seal on the incredible comeback win that sent Uganda into the final of the competition for the first time in history.

Uganda’s best ever finish in Men’s football of the African Games was reaching the semifinal stage at the 1999 edition.

Uganda will battle for gold with host nation Ghana on Friday, 22nd March.

Ghana needed a lone goal from Michael Ephson to edge Senegal in the semifinal on Tuesday night.
