The Ugandans defeated Malawi’s African Stars 4-3 in the preliminary round but will have to override a rigorous test against the Angolans who eliminated Lesotho’s Matlama FC 4-0.
KCCA has previously made history when they became the first Ugandan club to reach the group stages of the continent’s biggest club football tournament.
A repeat of the same is all they are looking up to.
With a team that comprises of largely youngsters in Allan Okello, Mustafa Kizza, Steven Sserwadda, Sadat Anaku, Musa Ramathan and Samuel Kato among others, the assistant manager Morley Byekwaso is confident of putting up a show to remember against their hosts even though the first leg match will be played on natural grass.
He said;
“We are safe and all our players are in shape.
We are just waiting for the day to see that we get the results.”
“We are not scared playing on the natural turf since we play on it against most of the teams at home.” He emphasised.
It should be noted that KCCA’s home ground at Lugogo in Kampala is made of artificial turf.
The second leg of this fixture will be played in Kampala in two weeks time.
The winner between these two clubs after both matches will play in the group stages of the CAF Champions League.
