Cheptegei beats compatriot to Fortebet player of July

The organisers of the Fortebet Real Stars awards have announced the winners of the month of July.

In Athletics, Joshua Cheptegei beat fellow countryman Jacob Kiplimo and 800m and 1500m Olympic semifinalist Winnie Nanyondo to the award.

Cheptegei won silver in the 10000m final at the ongoing 2020 Tokyo Olympic games while Kiplimo scooped bronze in the same race.

At the awarding ceremony, Cheptegei who is still in Japan for the 5000m race was represented by Ali Ngaimoko the athlete representative on the Uganda Athletics Federation.

The awarding ceremony was held at Route 256 Restaurant in Kampala on Monday, 2nd August.

Lady Cranes Faith Namugga scooped the Rugby player of the month of July award, she beat her teammate Peace Lekuru and Rugby Cranes star Adrian Kasiito.

In basketball Arthur Kaluma who scored 20 points as the Silverbacks team secured a place in the Afrobasket showpiece was crowned as the best of July.

He overcame his Silverbacks teammates Eric Rwahire and Ishmail Wainwright to the July gong.

Meanwhile, the Crew of Yasin Nasser and Ali Katumba who were unopposed for the best Rally Driver of the month were officially handed their accolade.

The Crew represented Uganda at the world Rally Championship last month.
