Defender Cyrus Kibande has joined Somali Premier League club Heegan FC ahead of the new season.

Kibande was initially linked to a move to Tooro United after leaving Express at the end of last season but the move fell through as no compromise was reached.

The lanky central defender left the country a week ago before completing his move to the Somali club.

Kibande rose to the scene in the 2019/20 after joining Express FC from Ggaba based Terranova Academy alongside Frank Senyondo, but abruptly fell in the club’s pecking order last season.

Besides being sidelined by injury, Kibande couldn’t break into Wasswa Bbosa’s preferred central defense partnership and was subsequently deemed surplus to requirement at the end of the season.

He now becomes the second Ugandan player to join Heegan FC ahead of the new season after former Tooro United captain Ssempijja Ayatu Ali who joined the club a month ago.

It should be noted that two Ugandan players Henry Wamala and Abdul Lukwata featured for Heegan and helped the club finish third with 33 points behind Mogadishu City Club and Horseed FC.

Heegan FC, also formerly known as Somalia Police, are two time Somali Premier League champions having the 2014/14 title as well as the inaugural edition in 1967.
