Kitara seek to stretch lead at top against Mbarara City

Kitara FC will return to the Uganda Premier league after their semifinal first leg 3-1 win over Pajule Lions in the Stanbic Uganda Cup on Saturday.

On Tuesday, the table leaders will shift focus on their league game against Mbarara City FC at Masindi Municipal Stadium.

Brian Ssenyondo coached side come into this contest after a 2-1 win over Express FC in their previous league match while Mbarara City played out to a goalless draw with UPDF FC.

Kitara currently top the log with 47 points, one point above second placed Vipers SC and BUL FC. They are also two points above fourth placed SC Villa but the record Uganda Premier league champions and Vipers have a game in hand.

Wasswa Bbosa’s Ankole Lions only need a point in their remaining games to confirm safety. They are currently 11th with 29 points.

Kitara will look up to former Ankole Lions players Brian Aheebwa, Paul Mucureezi, Jude Semugabi, Solomon Okwalinga and Jasper Aheebwa for inspiration. Their coach Ssenyondo will also be facing his former paymasters.

In Mbarara, both sides played out to a goalless stalemate. The Ankole Lions won their last visit to Kitara 1-0 in 2021.
