New comers Maroons fc gave defending champions a bloody nose in the league opener at the Star times stadium in Lugogo.

Pius Obuya conquered the midfield with impressive passes and crosses that he main exchanged with Godwin Kitagenda and former KCCA fc player William Wadri.

In the 15th minute Lukwago Charles came to KCCA’s rescue when he punched a Pius Obuya free header over the cross bar to cause the first corner kick of the game.

Lukwago still saved the situation when he punched out a Godwin Kitagenda free kick which he had taken after Habib Kavuma brought down William Wadri at the edge of the box.

KCCA tried to make runs in the process mainly using the left wing with Isaac Muleme struggling to give Eddy Kapampa a busy day on duty but all in vain.

Deep into the second half in the 64th minute referee Rajab Bakasambe denied the visitors an opportunity which appeared to have been a penalty when Paul Musamali who had been brought in to replace Habib Kavuma handed the ball in the goal area as a result of pressure from Patrick Gonahasha who had also replaced William Wadri.

The KCCA fc goalkeeper made yet another important save off a William Kiibi strike in the 70th minute to keep the game goalless.

Lukwago Charles put up a man of the match performance after he made several attempts for goal by Maroons’ strikers fruitless.

Mike Mutebi the KCCA fc tactician maintained that he still has a strong side although he was quick to accept the youthful Maroons’ side played with all the vigour and determination and looked a better side on the day and still maintained that the season has only one game done and that its just the beginning.

” Today we played against a very organised side of young boys playing with enthusiasm, I think they gave us a very good test and that is a wake up call to us “.

On his side the Maroons’ head coach Asaph Mwebaze was delighted to have won a point away,

“Of course am very much delighted with the players , they did a very good job , this is a good start and I think we can build on that”.
