Buganda Premier Charles Peter Mayiga has launched the 13th edition of the Masaza cup tournament today at Bulange Mengo. The prestigious tournament will kick off on 13th may with 78 games to be played this year.
Charles Peter Mayiga confirmed that Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi will arrive in Buddu on Friday next week and called upon all the football fans to come in large numbers for the opening game as Buddu host Mawogola at Masaka recreation grounds on 13th May.
The chairman of Masaza Organising Committee Sulaiman Ssejjengo says every Masaza team will receive five millions from official sponsors Airtel as preparations package. He also says that each team will be awarded one million for every stage it will progress past. Airtel has promised to continue supporting football in Uganda and urges fans to come and support their respective teams through out the tournament.

The Minister of Sports and Recreation Henry Ssekabembe also thanked the sponsors, stake holders and the Media and promised a successful tournament. Each of the 18 teams will receive two sets of Jerseys both for home and away.
Buddu are the defending champions while Mawokota and Gomba are the record holders with 3 titles each. Sserubiri Ivan was from Gomba was last year’s MVP and he will play for Buddu this year.
