Okwi lone header hands McKinstry winning start

Uganda Cranes new head coach started his new duties with a 1-0 win over Ethiopia in a friendly game played on Sunday evening.

Striker Emmanuel Arnold Okwi scored the all important goal in the encounter played at the Bahir Dar stadium in Ethiopia.

Okwi perfectly headed home a brilliant Joseph Ochaya cross in the 20th minute.

Allan Kyambadde was replaced by Wakiso Giants’ Kirizestom Ntambi in the first half due to injury.

In other substitutions made by McKinstry, Nicholas Wadada replaced Ronald Ddungu Mukiibi while William Kizito Luwagga was replaced by Moses Opondo.

Isaac Muleme also came on for RS Berkane’s Patrick Henry Kaddu.

This was McKinstry’s first ever game since he was unveiled as the new Cranes coach early this month.

It was also the first game the senior Cranes team played since taking part in the 2019 AFCON tournament held in Egypt.

Uganda will next play Burkina Faso (away) and Malawi (home) in the 2021 AFCON Qualifiers slated for next month.
