Uganda 1-0 South Africa

Uganda’s Women’s U20 team claimed first leg advantage after beating South Africa 1-0 in the World Cup Qualifiers match played at Kitende.

Hadija Nandago scored the all important goal for the Ayub Khalifa coached side in the 18th minute.

Nandago headed home perfectly from a well delivered Margaret Kunihira corner kick to give Uganda a deserved lead.

The corner was a result of Juliet Nalukenge’s close range tap in being parried out by the South African goalkeeper Nthabiseng Ramaisha following a Samalie Nakacwa close.

Nalukenge had a goal disallowed for offside at the stroke of halftime. She also came close from scoring in the 66th minute from a free kick but her low shot was parried out for a corner.

Kunihira had a long range shot rattle the cross bar in the 74th minute before she was rested and replaced by Zainah Nandede.

Nalukenge was also replaced by winger Lillian Mutuuzo with 15 minutes to play.

Mutuuzo nearly scored from a Fauzia Najjemba cross but her feeble shot went a few inches wide in the 80th minute.

The last chance of the game fell to Najjemba whose free kick from just outside the box was saved by the keeper.

The two sides will now face off in the second leg which is slated for December 16th in South Africa.
