Four weightlifters flagged off to Uzbekistan for Senior World Championship

The Uganda Weightlifting has been flagged off for Senior World weightlifting championship in Uzbekistan, Tashkent.

A team of four athletes was flagged off by the Deputy Secretary General National Council of Sports David Katende Ssemakula on Friday.

The event will also act as the qualification avenue for the forthcoming commonwealth games slated for next year in Birmingham.

The Senior World weightlifting championship is scheduled for 7th to 17th December in Tashkent.

“We have flagged off the Weightlifting team to Uzbekistan for the Commonwealth qualifiers.” We are optimistic that this team will perform well and qualify for the commonwealth games.”

Stated Katende.

Team captain Ssempereza Hakim Musoke says they are well prepared for the event

It’s been a long journey of preparations and we have really done our best in training for these qualifiers.” It takes a lot of training and focus for an athlete to participate in such big events and most generally we have had a solid training.”

Ssempereza revealed

We are hopeful that we will win medals which will automatically secure our places to the commonwealth games next year.” Stated Ssempereza

The four athletes to Uzbekistan will be under the stewardship of their coach Kassim Nsubuga Mulindwa.

The team of athletes;

•Hakim sempereza (250kg, 73 category)
•Nsubuga Ibrahim (67 category, 210Kg)
•Baligeya Godfrey (109 category, 250Kg)
•Niyoyita Davis (61 category, 200Kg)
