Uganda Christian University were crowned University Football League champions following a 2-1 win over St. Lawrence University in a classic final at StarTimes Stadium, Lugogo on Sunday.

Forward Ezra Kaye Kizito netted a brace to inspire the Mukono based institution to their first ever title while Misi Ssemugera scored St. Lawrence’s only goal.

Kizito gave UCU an early lead inside the opening five minutes with a powerful left footed strike to send StarTimes Stadium into eruption.

On the 50th minute mark, the latter completed his brace with a sublime finish that left goalie Musa Gita helpless.

St. Lawrence reacted brilliantly and created numerous chances through their danger men Owen Kasule and Tito Ssematimba but were denied by UCU custodian and skipper Derrick Were who was at his very best.

Ssemugera gave St. Lawrence hope when he eventually pulled one back but it wasn’t enough for his side.

UCU showed commitment, strength and desire throughout the entire competition and were indeed deserved winners.
