Daniel Mzee Sserunkuuma’s 30 minute strike has broken SC Villa’s home unbeaten record and ultimately swinging the title tide into Vipers hands.

The match lived to its build up billing and hype as one of the turning points of the 2017/18 season with SC Villa needing to win and kick Vipers out of contention.

It started with Vipers bossing possession with swift movement, relentless attacks and they were rewarded with Dan Serunkuuma’s clinical finish when he controlled Brian Nkuubi’s cross to bury the ball in the top corner far away from Samson Kirya.

Kizza was guilty of missing a glorious chance to send the game level

Villa woke up from their slumber and started making some serious attacks with some quicker movement and long balls.

The game almost went out of Ssali Mashud’s hands with both sets of players throwing high flying tackles against each other. He booked Martin Kizza, Milton Karisa, Brian Nkuubi and Taddeo Lwanga in succession.

SC Villa’s Wasswa Bbosa introduced Yubu Bogere and Mahad Yaya Kakooza for Godfrey Lwesibawa and Abel Eturude.

The changes saw a swing in dominance into Villa’s direction and shortly Martin Kizza got through unmarked but the marksman squandered the opportunity over the bar.

To soak the pressure, Vipers’ Miguel Da Costa introduced Deus Bukenya for Duncan Seninde who had enjoyed an impressive show on the evening.

Chasing the game, Bbosa brought on George Senkaba for Alex Kitatta and the striker immediately got a golden opportunity but his contact on the ball wasn’t enough to beat an onrushing Watenga.

Another glorious opportunity presented itself to Yubu Bogere when Nicholas Kasozi looped a long ball that beat Lwaliwa and Asiku but the striker couldn’t capitalise on it with Watenga already beaten.

Da Costa rounded off by introducing Baden Ogama for Dan Serunkuma and moments later Ssali Mashud called it a day sending the traveling fans in wild celebrations.

The result means SC Villa have lost their home unbeaten run, a record that roots back from last season.

It propels Vipers to 2nd on the log with 46 points and straight back into contention for the title. Their next fixture is at home to lowly Masavu whereas SC Villa will face a long journey to Mbarara.
