The Inaugural badminton league of three categories started on Saturday 28th January 2023 at Lugogo Indoor Arena.
The league is expected to run for eight months, has six clubs that will feature in National Super league (for elites), National Corporate league with six teams and the Schools league that is expected to start immediately the schools resume.
According to Chairperson Uganda Badminton Association,Madam Annet Nakamya, the league will be helping the Association to identify more talents and the players themselves to check their performance and levels every weekend.
This league will be hosted at Lugogo Indoor Arena, it will be played on round robin format meaning each side will be playing each other on a home and away basis but at Lugogo.
All categories of play will be catered for that’s; singles, doubles, and mixed doubles but a team that wins the tie, will win that game by three points and in case of a draw, each side will take a point, this is according to Simon Mugabi, the UBA CEO.
The players like Fadilah Shamika, Husna Kobugabe and Mwambu Kenneth from Kampala Badminton Club, Ndejje University and Mbogo Warriors respectively commented about the importance of the league towards their career development.
