Express FC advanced to the round of the 32 of the Stanbic Uganda Cup after edging Buganda Regional League side Kajjansi United 2-1 on Sunday.
The Red Eagles scored through Joseph Akandwanaho and Ronald Kizito who connected the ball in his own net.
Kizito’s own goal came as early as the 7th minute and gave Express a deserved lead.
Akandwanaho made it 2-0 in the 20th minute with a close range header from a goal mouth melee following a corner kick.
Moments later, Kajjansi had a glorious opportunity to pull one back through Joseph Shisha who failed to score from a keeper to beat situation.
Marvin Oshaba had a chance to stretch the lead early in the second half but his header came off the cross bar.
Substitute Swalleh Ssimbwa pulled one back with a header from a corner kick in the 79th minute and created a tense end of the game.
Express managed to deal with the threat from the regional league side and subsequently marched to the next round.
Elsewhere on Sunday, Lira based side Elite FC shocking eliminated Arua Hill on penalties following a 1-1 draw.
Goalkeeper Abraham Opio was the hero after saving four kicks in the shoot out as well as one penalty in full time.
UPDF also required a post match shoot out to overcome Bushenyi Veterans.
The Round of 64 will officially climax on Monday with three games.
