Rogers Mato was the star of show in Uganda’s 1-0 win over Tanzania on Tuesday evening which gave the Cranes hope of advancing to the AFCON finals slated for next year in Ivory Coast.

The KCCA FC forward netted deep in stoppage to give the Cranes their first win in Group F of the Qualification phase.

Mato expressed his delight after scoring his first goal for the senior national team

“I am very happy, it’s a dream come true. I once dreamed of scoring for the Uganda Cranes at this stage. I am very happy and I can’t express my happiness but deep inside me, I am happy.

I was pushing a colleague Isma Mugulusi and I told him that today it’s you winning us the game and I prayed for him so much. Eventually God heard my prayers and passed them through me.” Said Mato

Uganda Cranes will next faceoff with already qualified Algeria in June before locking horns with Niger.
