Record African champions Al Ahly cruised to the quarter-finals of the CAF Champions League after a well worked 3-0 victory over Sudan’s AL Hilal in front of over 50,000 fans at the Cairo International Stadium on Saturday.
Substitute Hussein El Shahat netted a brace as the Red Devils powered into the knock-out phase.
Mahmoud Kahraba Abdel-Moneim had earlier gave the Egyptian Giants the lead in the first period.
The result sees Ahly topple Hilal from second place as they moved to 10 points, same as Hilal who however had an inferior goal difference. The record champions also completed the Quarterfinal list.
Meanwhile, defending champions Wydad Athletic Club thrashed JS Kabylie 3-0 in Casablanca on Saturday night.
A brace from Bouly Junior Sambou and Zouheir El Moutaraji strike saw the holders finish top of Group A in the CAF Champions League.
