Jackson Mayanja has agreed a stunning return to Lugogo as KCCA FC interim coach for the rest of the season.

The KCCA FC legend will take over from Morley Byekwaso who resigned from his role following KCCA FC’s elimination from the Stanbic Uganda Cup on Sunday.

The 13 time Uganda Premier league champions made a breakthrough in negotiations with Mayanja on Monday afternoon leading to confidence that he could be in charge for Wednesday’s Premier League visit to URA FC which is followed by the mouthwatering contest against SC Villa at Lugogo on Sunday.

Mayanja has been out of work since being relieved of his duties as the Uganda U-20 (Hippos) coach by FUFA in March.

The tactician was in charge of the Hippos on interim basis after he replaced Morley Byekwaso who opted to stay with KCCA FC during that time.

He helped the Hippos win the Cecafa Zonal Afcon qualifiers in Sudan last year but the former Ugandan international failed to guide the team to the World Cup.

Former KCCA FC head coach Mike Hillary Mutebi is one of six candidates to succeed Byekwaso on a permanent basis, and Mayanja has been asked to take charge of the club he once featured for and served as a coach.

KCCA FC are also seeking to speak to former Bright Stars coach Baker Mbowa, Mbeya City coach Abdallah Mubiru, Wakiso’s John Luyinda and current Bright Stars coach Asaph Mwebaze and will not rush into a decision.
