The Masaza Cup organizing committee has announced that the away goals rule is now a thing of the past, with the historic move coming into play in the competition from 2023 onwards.

On Tuesday, it was confirmed that Masaza Cup knock out games can no longer be decided on away goals starting from this year’s edition after earning the seal of approval from the organizing committee.

“We have agreed with the representatives of the teams in the competition that once we reach the knock out phase away goals rule can no longer determine the winner.” If the teams are tied on goals after the second leg then a penalties will determine the winner.” Said Ssejjengo, the chairman Masaza Cup organizing committee

Away goals have played a significant role in various ties in the competition over the years and keeps the excitement and jeopardy in play long into the second leg.

It means that if a tie sees both teams with the same number of goals across two legs, a penalty shootout will determine the winner.
