SC Villa Collapse as Vipers retain Uganda Premier league title on goal difference

Vipers SC clinched the Uganda Premier league title on goal difference on the grand finish of the unpredictable 2022/2023 season.

The Venoms thrashed Busoga United 5-0 on the final at Kitende on Saturday to clinch the title for the second consecutive time and sixth overall.

On the final day, SC Villa needed victory over URA FC to win their first league title since 2004.

Najib Fesali’s second half goal was enough to end Villa’s dream of a league title in 19 years.

The Jogoos however collapsed on the grand finale of Uganda Premier League season as they suffered a 1-0 defeat to URA FC to surrender the trophy to Vipers SC.

Further, SC Villa dramatically fall from first to third spot which is out of continental football qualification after KCCA FC shred Bright Stars FC 5-0 at Lugogo.

Meanwhile, goals from Yunus Sentamu, Bright Anukani, Martin Kizza and a brace from Abubaker Lawal ensured that the Venoms retained the title on 53 points same as second placed KCCA FC.

The Venoms however had a better goal difference of 27 compared to second placed KCCA FC who had 19.
