The Wushu Kung Fu national team returned home with three Kwibuka Medals that they scooped at this year’s Genocide Memorial Games.
On Thursday, morning the team three winners unveiled their medals to the public at their Zurkhaneh/Wushu Kung Fu Federation offices.
The three winners are Ivan Wong Ssenyondo who prevailed to Gold while Deo Bago and Jonathan Mugwisa scooped silver at the games that attracted participants from Rwanda, DR Congo, Kenya and Burundi among others.

Wushu Kung fu Federation president Eddy Gombya thanked the winners and praised National Council of Sports for supporting the participants
“We are here to inform the public that we were cleared by National Council of Sports to go represent Uganda at the Genocide Memorial games ( Kwibuka 29) in Kigali, Rwanda. The Wushu national team represented well and came back home with three medals, congratulate them.”
“We are now focusing at the Olympics games in 2024 since the sport has been added to the Olympic games. We have done our best in secret since the Competition in Maputo, Mozambique and are targeting those who hope to join the sport in the near by future”
“We would like to thank National Council of Sports and the Ministry of Education and Sports for the support, without exception of the Rwanda trip. We are not complaining and happy.” Said Gombya.
Team Uganda at Genocide Memorial Games
At the Genocide Memorial games that took place in June, Wushu Kung Fu Uganda national team was represented by ten athletes which included Robert Kizito, Ronald Ssebagenyi, Shafik Ssekasamba Kulumba, Apollo Asiimwe, Leon Mollison Muyomba, Jonathan Mugwisa, Deo Bago, Hassan Lubega, Ivan Wong Ssenyondo and Charles Mulindwa.
