Tanzanian Premier League champions Yanga Africans are interested in signing SC Villa defender Gift Fred.
Swift Sports Uganda understands that Yanga currently lead the race for Gift’s signature.
The Tanzanian champions are reportedly seeking for a replacement of Malian defender Mamadou Doumbia who has been deemed surplus to requirements.
Meanwhile, Villa remains in negotiations to renew their skipper’s employment contract.
The defender is currently out of contract following expiration of his employment contract at the 16 time Uganda Premier league champions last season.
Despite expiration of his three year deal at Villa, Gift has this week been training with the club at East High in Ntinda.
Gift joined Villa from third tier side Booma FC on a three-year employment contract in 2020.
He also featured for Gomba in the prestigious Buganda Masaza Cup tournament where he won the 2020 edition. He scored in the final as Gomba beat Buddu 3-1 at St.Mary’s Stadium in Kitende.
Gift was part of Uganda Cranes CHAN team and has also played for the national team in the 2-1 AFCON qualifying match against Algeria last month.
The defender had great 2022/23 campaign as Villa came close to winning the league title, finishing third on the log with 52 points.
