The 2023 Champions Cup Uganda tournament officially climaxed with Lweza Starlets Academy emerging as the winners after beating Big Boys FC 1-0 in the final.
The one day tournament was a Ugandan version organized by MasterCard Foundation and Green Sports Africa.
The well attended tournament attracted a total of 16 teams which were evenly divided in groups of four and faced off in a 7v7 format at the ESA Park, Kitubulu in Katabi Town Council, Wakiso district.
It involved players aged below 21 years with an aim for spotting new talents but also to guide them in health issues.
Marvin Mukiibi scored the all important goal that helped Lweza Starlets to edge Big Stars in the closely contested final.
The third place was taken by Lake View who beat Best West in a shoot out following a barren draw in the third place play off.
Lweza Starlets walked away with a trophy and gold medals on top of receiving a prize money of 600 dollars while the losing finalists Big Boys got 200 dollars.
All quarter finalists received full sets of jerseys upon making it past the group stage.
The tournament will subsequently be played in the similar format in Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and Nigeria
