Egyptian side Al Ittihad Alexandria Club have terminated the employment contract of Uganda Cranes defender Gavin Kizito Mugweri.

Last year Mugweri joined the Egyptian outfit on a two year employment contract but injuries dettered his fight for a starting place and he was limited to only three appearances from the bench.

Kizito joined as a free agent following the expiration of his contract at SC Villa. It is however reported that Kizito has a move to Europe lined up.

On Friday the Egyptian side confirmed Kizito’s release on their official website

“The Board of Directors of Al-Ittihad Club of Alexandria completed the procedures for termination and termination of the contract with the Ugandan player Gavin Kizito.”

“Kizito joined the ranks of the leader of the gap at the beginning of this season, and following the technical vision of the technical staff led by the Serbian Zoran, the contract with the player was terminated by mutual consent.” Read the statement from the club

Kizito rose through the ranks from the U-17, U-20 and U-23 set ups.

He was the captain for the Uganda U-20 team and won silver at the 2021 U-20 AFCON championships hosted in Mauritania.

In 2019, Kizito guided St.Mary’s Kitende to the Copa Coca-Cola and FEASSSA triumphs.

For starters, Al Ittihad Alexandria is also a former home for Uganda Cranes team captain Emmanuel Okwi.
