Kampala Queens are set to unveil She Amavubi Stars striker Florence Imanizabayo from Rayon Sports, Swift Sports has learnt.
Imanizabayo, commonly known as Zabayo is already in the country ahead of her unveiling.
Zabayo was part of the Rwanda national team that faced Uganda’s Crested Cranes in the Olympic Qualifiers in Kigali last month.
The stocky striker previously played for She Corporates alongside her compatriot Alice Kalimba in the FUFA Women Elite League about five years ago.
She is expected to boost the club’s striking force that also has Fazila Ikwaput, ahead of the upcoming CAF Champions League Qualifiers.
Zabayo had a splendid 2022/23 season scoring a total of 60 goals in the 26 games she played for Rayon Sports.
She guided Rayon Sports to a topflight league promotion after scoring 44 goals in the second tier league and also scored 16 goals in the Peace Cup where they finished as losing finalists to AS Kigali.
She had joined Rayon Sports on a one year deal from AS Kigali in October last year after winning five league titles and six Peace Cups with the club.
She also previously played for Kamonyi Women Football Club before crossing over to AS Kigali in 2016.
Kampala Queens will be facing off with Buja Queens (Burundi), Yei Joint Stars (South Sudan), CBE of Ethiopia and Djibouti’s FAD FC as Group A opponents.
The tournament will kick off on August 13th at Njeru and Lugogo with the eventual champions proceeding to the final tournament in Ivory Coast.
