Uganda’s long-distance runners Joshua Cheptegei and Jacob Kiplimo will hold the nation’s hopes for glory at the forthcoming 2023 World Athletics Championship in Hungary, Budapest.
The Ugandan dynamic duo is among the 21 Athletes that will represent the Uganda at this year’s Worlds that will held on August 19th-27 at National Athletics Centre in Budapest.
The 21 Athletes that will represent Uganda in Budapest is an increment from the 17 that were at Oregon, USA last year.
Maestro Cheptegei is the reigning World 10000m champion for the last two editions will be seeking for a third straight triumph.
He is also the reigning 5000m Olympic Champion.
Cheptegei will double in Hungary after entering in both 5000m and 10000m races.
His compatriot, Kiplimo the double Commonwealth champion (5000m and 10000m) will be seeking success at the event.
Kiplimo will also do a double at Budapest after entering in both 10000m and 5000m. Last year in Oregon, Kiplimo clinched bronze in the 10000m race.
The team also comprise of Halima Nakaayi the 2019 World Champion in the 800m race, 3000m Steeplechase Olympic Champion Peruth Chemutai among others.

Women – Halima Nakaayi (800m), Winnie Nanyondo (1500m), Peruth Chemutai (3000m SC), Sarah Chelangat (5000m & 10,000m), Prisca Chesang (5000m), Stella Chesang (10,000m), Doreen Chesang (Marathon), Rebecca Chepetegei (Marathon), Mercyline Chelangat (Marathon)
Men – Tarsis Orogot (200m), Tom Dradriga (800m), Salim Abu Mayanja (1500m), Leonard Chemutai (3000m SC), Oscar Chelimo (5000m), Joshua Cheptegei (5000m, 10,000m), Jacob Kiplimo (5000m, 10,000m), Rogers Kibet (10,000m), Joel Ayeko (10,000m), Stephen Kissa (Marathon), Victor Kiplangat (Marathon), Andrew Rotich Kwemoi (Marathon)
