Kenya Women Premier League champions Vihiga Queens have added Ugandan goalkeeper Ruth Aturo to their roster ahead of the upcoming CAF Women’s Champions League Qualifiers.
Swift Sports reliably understands Aturo has been named among the squad list that will take part in the qualifiers to be held in Uganda.
Aturo last featured for Saudi Arabia club Al Shabab Women Football Club in February and has now opted for a short term spell with Vihiga Queens.
She was also a transfer target of Ugandan champions Kampala Queens and held talks over a possible transfer but the two parties couldn’t strike a compromise.
Besides being a captain, Aturo is a senior member of the Crested Cranes having been part of the national team since 2016.
She rose to prominence with Kawempe Muslim winning numerous titles for both club and school before joining UCU Lady Cardinals in 2017 and later Finland’s KTP Naeist in 2022.
Vihiga Queens are expected to arrive in Uganda today in the evening, just like Ethiopia’s CBE FC.
The club also has two other Ugandan players in the squad that is; creative midfielder Anitah Namata and striker Winnie Babirye.
Namata was instrumental as the club won last season’s title at the expense of Gaspo Women Football Club having scored 10 goals and registered seven assists.
Vihiga Queens are pitted in Group B alongside AS Kigali of Rwanda, New Generation from Zanzibar and JKT Queens of Tanzania.
Group A has Kampala Queens, CBE (Ethiopia), FAD Club (Djibouti), Buja Queens (Burundi) and South Sudan’s Yei Joint Stars.
The games will officially kick off on Saturday 12th August at the MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo.
