Vipers SC are in advanced stages of re-appointing Alex Isabirye as their next head coach, Swift Sports reliably understands.

Isabirye who unceremoniously left Vipers SC about two months ago, is expected to take charge of the Venoms replacing Brazilian coach Leo Neiva.

Swift Sports understands that Vipers held talks with Isabirye over a possible return this week after the Brazilian tactician tendered his resignation from the coaching role.

Neiva will officially leave following the club’s elimination from the CAF Champions League courtesy of a 3-2 aggregate defeat by Botswana’s Jwaneng Galaxy last week.

Isabirye holds a special place in the history of Vipers having guided them to their first ever domestic double last season.

It is also believed that during his stay at Kitende, Isabirye established a very good working relationship with Vipers boss Dr. Lawrence Mulindwa and it is one of the reasons behind his imminent return.

Isabirye is also touted as a quick fix who could make things work out easily with a few days left to the league kick-off.

He has recently been linked to a return to URA FC to fill the vacant coaching role but also had offers away from the country.

Besides URA FC and Vipers, Isabirye has previously coached BUL FC, Kyetume FC, SC Victoria University, Soana FC, Kirinya Jinja SS and Somalia’s Horseed FC among others.

The former Cranes striker has won three League titles and five Uganda Cups but also won the King Daud Cup in Somalia and the FUFA Drum with Buganda Province.

It should be noted that Isabirye was also named as the coach of the season in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League Awards at the start of July.
