Uganda Cranes beat Niger 2-0 in Morocco on Thursday night in their final group game of the 2023 AFCON Qualifiers.

Despite the win, the Cranes will not be at the continental showpiece for the second successive time.

First half goals from Aziz Kayondo and Joseph Ochaya handed Uganda victory but Tanzania held on to a goalless draw against Algeria to advance to due next year’s AFCON in Ivory Coast.

Algeria came into the game against the Tiafa Stars seeking to become the first team to win all group games of an AFCON qualification campaign after Senegal who did it in the 2017 qualification campaign.

The Taifa Stars put up a performance of their lives in Algiers which was enough to send them to Ivory Coast’s Showpiece.

Before the stalemate in Algiers on Thursday, Algeria were on a 100% record in group F having won five games.

Algeria ended the qualification campaign with 16 points from six matches and Tanzania on eight, one more than Uganda.

Group F Table

1 Algeria 16 pts
2 Tanzania 8
