Boxing Olympic Qualifiers: Three Ugandan boxers target Semifinal slots

Three Ugandan boxers will be targeting Semifinal slots when they return to action on Wednesday at the ongoing African Boxing Olympic Qualifiers in Dakar, Senegal.

Bombers captain Joshua Tukamuhebwa, Shafick Mawanda and Isaac Zebra Ssenyange Jr son to late Zebra Mando are the three boxers who prevailed to the Quarterfinals.

Tukamuhebwa stopped Gabon’s Ndjinga Clinton Farlo in the second round of the Men’s 63.5Kg at the round of 16 bout on Monday.

He will now face off with Tunisia’s Dridi Mehdi in the Quarterfinal stage today.

Mawanda also reached the Quarterfinal stage after powering past Senegal’s Sow Pape Mamadou in the Men’s 51Kg fight.

He will now battle South Africa’s Allotey Theophilus Kpakpo for a place in the Semifinal.

Meanwhile, Ssenyange Jr sealed a place in the Quarterfinal after beating South Africa’s Simnikiwe Bongco at the round of 16.

In the Quarterfinal, he will lock horns with Lesotho’s Michael Pakela.

At the Tokyo Games, Uganda was represented by three boxers who are Shadir Musa Bwogi, David Ssemujju and Catherine Nanziri.
