Video: Boxing coach beats female boxer for losing fight

A video that involves a coach allegedly from Sparks Boxing club beating a female Boxer has surfaced the internet.

In the video, the coach identified as Herbert Kalungi is seen punishing boxer Daphine Namitala after she had lost a fight.

 

The incident happened over the weekend when Apio Irene from Gulu unanimously beat Namitala in a boxing fight.

State Minister for Sports Peter Ogwang has criticized the incident and called for serious action to be taken.

“This is indeed very distrubing and must be condemned. Please establish the facts and ensure that investigations commence in due course so that justice prevails.” Ogwang tweeted

Uganda Boxing Federation has condemned the act in a letter from the President Moses Muhangi

“It has come to our attention that there is a trending disturbing video involving one of our boxers. As a Federation we do not condone corporal punishments as it it illegal in Uganda. We have immediately tasked our disciplinary Committee to investigate this matter and we get to establish the facts to this issue and we shall accordingly work with Uganda Police to resolve this matter.” Read a statement from the Federation
