Defending champions Uganda Martyrs University travel to Entebbe to take on University of Kisubi on Thursday and are looking to continue their perfect start to this season of the Pepsi University Football League.
Uganda Martyrs comfortably won their opening game of the 2023-24 season 3-1 at home against Bugema University thanks to a brace from Ssentongo Akbar and a goal from Agamire Ivan and coach Kisuze Eric will be looking to secure another win in Kisubi so as to move to the top of Group A.
“As defending champions we know that everyone wants to beat us,” Kisuze said. “But we are looking to defend our title and also want to win all our games.”
“Our strategy may not be the beautiful football that we all want to see but as long as we get the ball in the net I am happy,” Kisuuze added.
However University of Kisubi has other plans with coach Lukoki Jesse saying he is confident they can beat the champions.
“It is possible to beat Uganda Martyrs and that is what we are going to do on Thursday,” Lukoki said. “Although we lost our first game away to Kabale I believe we shall do better on our home ground”
“What is important is to show great fighting spirit and determination. We believe in ourselves and we did not come here to just participate. As UniK we want to go all the way and to do that we need to make a mark against Uganda Martyrs,” Lukoki added.
University of Kisubi are yet to go past the group stage of the competition and will face a hard challenge this season in a group that comprises the defending champions as well as Bugema University and Kabale University.
