The Minister of State for Sports, Peter Ogwang has revealed that hosting the 2027 AFCON will encourage the Ugandan government to invest the sports Sector.

Uganda along with Kenya and Tanzania won the bid to Co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations Finals.

“We must also accept that the arrival of the AFCON will encourage the government to invest in the sports sector. You may not believe in us, but this will undoubtedly benefit the sports sector.
Said Ogwang while appearing on NTV Sport Knights before adding,

“Uganda needed to win the bid, and now that we have the hosting rights for AFCON, we aim to deliver the best tournament in the history of African football.”

Ogwang also stated that they plan to build stadiums in each region

“Setting aside AFCON, the plan is to build stadiums in each region. Therefore, we must allocate more funds to the sports sector.” Added Ogwang

The last time an East African Member Association hosted the prestigious Africa Cup of Nations tournament was in 1976 in Ethiopia.
