Uganda’s basketball Giants City Oilers have qualified for the 2024 Basketball Africa League (BAL).
This was after their 72-61 win over Burundi’s Dynamo in the BAL Elite 16 semifinal game on Saturday at Ellis Park in South Africa.
The development sees City Oilers return to the competition for the second consecutive time.
City Oilers also advanced to the Elite 16 final and will face the winner in the other Semifinal due on Sunday between Cape Town Tigers and COSPN.
The finalists will be joined by the third placed team in next year’s BAL which will be held across four Africa cities.
Victory over Dynamo was inspired by Robinson Opong who scored 17 points, Titus Lual (14) and Germaine Roebuck managed 13.
Before today’s victory, City Oilers had registered wins against Zimbabwe’s JBC, Ferroviario da Beira of Mozambique and Madagascar’s COSPN during the group stage.
