Former Uganda Cranes captain Denis Onyango asserts that it was a wrong move by Hamis Kiggundu to install  artificial turf at the redeveloped Nakivubo Stadium.

During an interview with Bukedde TV, Onyango said players easily get injured on artificial turfs

“I started playing football at Nakivubo when it had natural grass. I am happy that Ham has developed the Stadium just that he has opted for artificial turf not natural grass.”

“In the modern times, no player will come from Europe and come and play football on the artificial turf. Players easily get injured on the artificial turf but I give Ham the credit for such an achievement.”

“Though I don’t think it will host the AFCON but it’s good for Ugandan football.”

For starters, the Stadium was closed in 2015 and a project to renovate it was announced in 2017 as a collaboration between the Ugandan Government and Ham Enterprises.

At the redeveloped Stadium, Ham has installed seats, a gym, modern boxing ring, Basketball court. The Stadium is expected to officially start hosting games before the end of this year.
