Uganda Netball Federation President Sarah Babirye remanded to Luzira

The Uganda Netball Federation president Sarah Babirye Kityo has been remanded to Luzira till Friday, 1st December 2023.

On Thursday morning, Babirye appeared before the Anti corruption Court in Kololo over charges on accountability at the Federation.

and remanded to Luzira Prison till Friday, 1st December 2023.

Babirye was arrested on Wednesday at her residence in Maya, Mpigi district and taken to CID headquarters in Kibuli- Kampala.

“Basically what happened, we presented our client diligently and court in it’s wisdom decided because the land state attorney she said she wants to verify some information about the sureties we have presented today in court, so some of those documents need to be verified.

“I think it’s her right and they are going to be verified because we do know that they do check out and the moment they do check out, then the bail maybe granted tomorrow.” Said Kityo’s Lawyer Joshua Byamazima as quoted by Voice of Bugerere.

Kityo also asserted before appearing at the Anti Corruption Court that she remains strong

“They are now panicking, they’re looking at all ways to cover up their dirty, they told me to account for 425m and now they are asking for 186m, but I am still strong, they will die in their own movie.”Kityo said as by Voice of Bugerere

In December, 2021 National Council of Sports accused Babirye and her executive for not having the accounting for Shs 425m.

NCS revoked the Netball Federation certificate in October this year. The She Cranes also failed to take part in the African Netball Championship in Botswana.

The Speaker of Parliament Anita Among also raised concerns over She Cranes’ failure not to participate in the Africa Netball championship and called upon the Minister for Sports Peter Ogwang to present a statement over the affairs at Uganda Netball Federation.
