Left footed forward Pius Chris Akena has joined Greek second tier club Apollon Pontou FC on a one and half year contract.
He has joined Pontou from Greek third tier club Megas Alexandros Agia Marinas where he spent the first half of the season.
Akena is a former Maroons FC player who has previously played Aspire Academy as well as UAE sides Al Rams FC and Shabab Al Ahli Dubai.
He has two caps with the Uganda Cranes earned in 2022 under coach Micho’s stewardship. He played for Uganda in friendlies against Iraq and Bahrain in January 2022.
Akena’s new club Apollon Pontou is based in Polykastro, Kilkis, Greece and host games at the Polykastro Stadium.
The club sits 12th on the Group A table of the Greek second division league.
Ronald Madoi, Ivan Irinimbabazi and Daniel Isiagi are other Ugandans plying their trade in Greece. They are all currently with SFK Pierikos in the third tier.
