South Sudan have named NEC FC midfielder Gadafi Wahab among their provisional squad that will take on São Tome and Principe in the AFCON Qualifiers later this month.
Wahab is the latest Ugandan born player to be lured by the Bright Stars of South Sudan.
The former Onduparaka and Arua Hill midfielder has been one of the most consistent attacking midfielders in the Uganda Premier League since rising to the scene in 2016.
South Sudan sought for an opportunity to capitalize on the fact that Wahab hadn’t broken his way into the Uganda Cranes set up.
The squad also consists of four other UPL players who include Wahab’s teammates at NEC FC Joseph Dhata Lujang and Atendele Geriga as well as Richard Anyama (UPDF FC) and Emmanuel Peter Loki (KCCA) who are already established South Sudanese internationals.
Ivan Wani of Kator FC in South Sudan, Kenya Police FC duo of Rashid Toha and Tito Okello as well as former Onduparaka midfielder William Gama (now at Malakia FC) are some of the other familiar faces in the provisional squad.
