Boxing: Tukamuhebwa powers past Guatemala’s Garcia to keep Olympic dream alive

Uganda Bombers captain Joshua Tukamuhebwa kept his 2024 Olympic games dream alive after powering past Guatemala’s Garcia Edgar at the ongoing qualification tournament in Italy.

The Ugandan cruised to the round of 16 after the RSC decision in the third round of the 63.5kg bout.

Tukamuhebwa will next face Romanian Jitara Robert Eusebiu on Thursday in the epic round of 16 contest.

The Romanian boxer unanimously (5-0) prevailed over Namibian Shailemo Elifas.

For starters, Uganda sent four boxers at the qualification tournament. Two have already been eliminated who are Shafic Mawanda who lost his but via a walkover after arriving late in the ring.

Yusuf Nkobeza also had his Olympic games dream end after sufferinh defeat to Romanian Paul Andrei Aradoaei.

Emily Nakalema progressed to the Women’s 66kg division after receiving a bye in the first preliminary round. Nakalema will face off with Cape Verde’s Moreira Ivanusa on Friday.

Meanwhile, Africa sent 68 boxers at the World Olympic Qualifiers in Italy, 34 have so far been eliminated.
