All Africa Games: Kobugabe, Mbabazi clinch Badminton Gold

Ugandan duo of Husinah Kobugabe and Gladys Mbabazi clinched the country’s first gold medal at the ongoing 13th African Games in Ghana on Sunday evening.

The pair smiled to gold in the women’s doubles at the Multipurpose Borteyman Sports Complex.

Kobugabe and Mbabazi cruised 2-0 (23-21) and (21-14) past Algeria’s duo to secure gold for Uganda.

Algerian duo of Mammeri K and Medel Y.S won the Men’s double after beating Nigeria’s pair of Olofua and Ofeyoria 2-0(21-06) and( 21-15).

Nigeria Opeyori clinched the Men’s single gold after beating his compatriot Olofua 2-1 (21-23), 21-17, 21-15).

Kobugabe secured silver medal in Women’s singles after to defeat to South Africa’s Johanita Scholtz. In same category, Uganda’s Fadilah Shamika won bronze.

In the mixed doubles, Algeria’s Mammeri K and Mammeri T.V secured gold after a 2-0 (21-11 and 21-15) over Egypt.
